If you are interested in adopting one of the available greyhounds shown here, please contact one of our representatives listed above or on our Contact Us page to help you with the adoption process. For a general adoption guide, please check our Adoption Guide and for adoption requirements and general information about greyhounds, please check our FAQs

No description is provided for greyhounds who have just recently arrived at our kennel. In all other cases, where a description is given regarding behavior, and the results of cat, small dog and kid testing, the information provided is merely for guidance. Each dog may adapt differently in a different home environment, with other animals or children whose behavior is different. Please work closely with our adoption representative to help you pick the right dog for your home.

Cat Trainable Dogs - There are many people with cats looking to adopt greyhounds.  If you do not have cats, we ask that you only consider adopting a dog that is not cat trainable.  These dogs need homes just as much as the cat trainable dogs and we ask your help in reserving the cat trainable dogs for those homes that truly need them.

Apartments, Condominiums, TownHomes - GPI reserves the right not to place a greyhound under 3 years of age in a condominium, townhome or apartment, due to their expected energy levels and activity needs.

GPI also reserves the right not to place greyhounds deemed as high energy in a condominium, townhome or apartment.

EXCEPTIONS to these policies may be considered for a particular dog, but they must be pre-approved by the President (or his/her board of director’s designee) AND the applicable Regional VP.

We do not recommend picking a dog from its cute picture or color. Please choose dogs within your locality or within your driving distance. Being a volunteer based group, it is difficult for the organization to organize special transport of a dog from one end of our service area to another end. We make an exception for our Special Hounds.

He is calm around the house, but there are also those delightful, playful moments where he pulls the toys out and he is spinning around the family room playing. He is not a dog for the first time dog owner, and you need to know when to push and when not to with this boy, but once Bill knows you and is comfortable, he is very affectionate and eager to please.

Comments: Breaker is a fun, friendly, happy boy. He loves people. He can be a talker when he is excited – just too cute! Breaker is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome and would do best in a home with a fenced yard. Breaker will need a home with an experienced dog owner. He may do best as an only dog. Off-leash dog parks are not advisable with Breaker. Breaker does have some spinal pain issues, but he has been fine with daily medication and runs and plays without a problem. Breaker is feeling so much better since he started his pain meds and supplements.  He is quite playful and fun.  He is definitely upbeat, affectionate and enjoying life. Comments: Fonzie is a love. So affectionate and he loves people. He LOVES to play ball and will fetch it and bring it back to you. Fonzie did well in our cat testing, but has not lived with cats. Fonzie came to us from the mid-west. He was pulled from Animal Control. Animal Control had found 3 dogs at a home, living mostly outside in a pen and not being well cared for – Fonzie was one of them. Fonzie is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome and will need a home with a securely fenced yard (6 foot). Other dogs scare him, so we are slowly introducing him to other dogs. Fonzie will make a wonderful, devoted companion. One of our wonderful volunteers paid for a DNA test on Fonzie - it came back as 100% greyhound!!!  We will provide a copy of the DNA test report to his adoptive family, along with his other paperwork.

Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds, No Small Dogs
Kid Friendly: No young kids
Location: Foster home
Larger photos: Click the links in Kojak's comment area
Comments: Kojak is a friendly, nice boy. He is a big time leaner. He is affectionate and calm. Kojak will need a home without cats or small dogs. He loves his walks with our volunteers and walks well on leash. Foster home update: Kojak is a super fun dog if you like a close companion and a dog who looks with loving eyes at you on walks. He likes to follow me around the house and help with daily chores. He is confident and very friendly with people and likes the company of other greyhounds and calm large dogs. Small active noisy dogs are still a challenge for him. Kojak lived as an only dog before and currently is getting along well with the 3 other dogs in the house. To say Kojak is a leaner is an understatement. He LEANS and is very snuggly, moldable and polite. Nail trims are not a problem and he is fine with having his teeth brushed. He is smart and wants to do the right thing. Just a calm “nope” and he is directed away from the task he is attending to. He can be possessive of brand new amazing toys but after correction allows me to take the toy from him if needed. Kojak is fun to watch with his toys and is quite active with them at times but mostly he lays around. He spends a lot of time roaching in true greyhound form with his mouth open and a smile on his face.  Kojak loves to play fetch and returns the ball for future throws.  He is lots of fun for sure.

Riley has lived in a home with a cat. The cat in his previous home made him nervous, but he was absolutely fine with the cats in our retesting. He does fine with some dogs, but not others. Riley would do best in a home with a fenced yard. He can be quite high energy, so a more active home might be best. Riley will need a home with an experienced dog owner.
