If you are interested in adopting one of the available greyhounds shown here, please contact one of our representatives listed above or on our Contact Us page to help you with the adoption process. For a general adoption guide, please check our Adoption Guide and for adoption requirements and general information about greyhounds, please check our FAQs

No description is provided for greyhounds who have just recently arrived at our kennel. In all other cases, where a description is given regarding behavior, and the results of cat, small dog and kid testing, the information provided is merely for guidance. Each dog may adapt differently in a different home environment, with other animals or children whose behavior is different. Please work closely with our adoption representative to help you pick the right dog for your home.

Cat Friendly Dogs - There are many people with cats looking to adopt greyhounds. If you do not have cats, we ask that you only consider adopting a dog that is not cat friendly. These dogs need homes just as much as the cat friendly dogs and we ask your help in reserving the cat friendly dogs for those homes that truly need them.

Apartments, Condominiums, TownHomes - GPI reserves the right not to place a greyhound under 3 years of age in a condominium, townhome or apartment, due to their expected energy levels and activity needs.

GPI also reserves the right not to place greyhounds deemed as high energy in a condominium, townhome or apartment.

EXCEPTIONS to these policies may be considered for a particular dog, but they must be pre-approved by the President (or his/her board of director’s designee) AND the applicable Regional VP.

We do not recommend picking a dog from its cute picture or color. Please choose dogs within your locality or within your driving distance. Being a volunteer based group, it is difficult for the organization to organize special transport of a dog from one end of our service area to another end. We make an exception for our Special Hounds.

Comments: Anchor is a confident, calm and friendly boy. He is a happy soul that loves to look up at you when you talk to him as if he understands every word. Anchor is a smiler. He may not be the best choice with young children because of his confidence. Anchor is all about Anchor – after all, isn’t that why we were put on this earth, to serve him!!! He is a love and a dreamboat. He enjoys riding in the car and jumps right in. He is great on the leash and loves to walk and explore. He will need a home without cats and is most probably not a good choice for the first time adopter.

Brutus

Brutus aka Brewster
Tag No: 5666
Registered Name: None
Date of Birth: Approx. April 15, 2014
Color: Black
Cat Friendly: Yes, with caution
Dog Friendly: See comments
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Location: Foster home
Larger photo:  Yes, click the link in Brutus' comment area
Comments: Brutus is a puppy. He is a greyhound mix and brother to Ellie. He is a happy, friendly little guy and will just make you smile. He loves all kinds of toys and really wants to please. Being a puppy he has lots of energy and will need a home that can guide him in the ways of the world. Brutus was the biggest of the litter and will need some guidance on how to share. Brutus is still too young to be with adult dogs as they can easily injure a puppy without meaning to. Brutus did well in cat testing, but being a puppy he wants to play and chase, so all interactions with cats must be carefully monitored.  Foster Update:  Brutus is doing well in his foster home and learning to interact with the other bigger /older dogs.  He has a lot of energy, but will entertain himself with various toys and laps around the yard.  He loves to play with the Great Dane puppy in his foster home.  We are working on his leash and house manners and he is eager to learn.  Brutus is such a fun boy!  He will just make you smile!  Foster Update:  Brutus (or Brewster - putting a more positive spin on his name) is making progress and learning some commands.  He is not for the faint of heart and his activity level can be quite a challenge.  This is not your average couch potato greyhound.  He is very affectionate.  Fun, playful and very entertaining.

Comments: Davis is an update, friendly, happy boy.  He is a handsome, active guy. Davis came to us with a broken leg, but it is healing well.  We are slowing giving him more exercise and he is building up strength in that leg.  He will be fine for daily walks and playing, but is not suitable if you are looking for a jogging/hiking partner.  Davis will need a home without cats and is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome.

Dino

Color: Black
Cat Friendly: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds, ok with small dogs
Kid Friendly: See comments
Location: Foster home
Larger photo:  Yes, click the link in Dino's comment area
Comments: Dino is very affectionate and gentle. He came to us from Ireland. He was in a foster home for a couple of weeks in Ireland and did very well –  very affectionate, good recall, very gentle with other dogs. He does guard his food a little bit (but is not aggressive), so he might not be a good choice for young children. Silly boy is afraid of the shiny floors, but he is a wonderful boy. Dino will need a home without cats. He did well in small dog testing and has spent time around Jack Russell Terriers.  Foster home update: Dino has really settled down in his foster home. He walks well on a leash and seems to do fine on long walks (5-7 miles flat so far, no problem). He loves to play but can play rather hard with his toys so best to keep small children away when he does. He was guarding his food and treats at first but is doing much better now. He looks at and follows the lead of the other older dogs in his foster home. He is super affectionate and likes to cuddle. And he is quite the talker! He is a big baby, does not like smooth floors or jumping out of his foster’s SUV. Dino has been to two booths and has done well. It looks like he is ok with small kids coming up and petting him. He seemed to pay a lot of attention to some small dogs but it is unclear so far whether it was just curiosity. Won’t you give this wonderful boy a home?

Comments: Dutch is a tall, handsome boy.  He is a lurcher (greyhound mix). He is outgoing, friendly and happy about life. You can’t help but smile when you are around this boy and everyone who meets him falls in love! Dutch is Mr. Personality. He will need a home with a 6 foot fence and without small dogs or cats. We do not recommend him with young children. Dutch loves to play and is a great companion. Dutch does well on our kennel dog walks. Jo Jo will need a home without cats or young children.  Foster home update: (In Jo Jo's words)  I like this foster thing... There are beds everywhere, a doggie door leading out to a big yard and two cute older ladies (Lady and Zora) to keep me company when the human is gone. There are stuffies and balls and toys all over the place. A handsome hound like me could get used to this. The ride here was nice but I'll need some practice getting in the car. Tomorrow, a walking adventure in the park. To be continued....

Comments: McKray was returned to us through no fault of his. He has lived in a home with a yard. He is laid back, friendly (loves people) and just a love. He has done well being around cats, but has not lived with them. He loves walks and hikes, but also loves to hang with you. McKray has pannus in both eyes, but it is easily treatable with daily fairly inexpensive eye drops, which he will likely need for life. McKray is a little on the shy side.  He is not overly fond of those silly smooth floors, but he manages quite well with a little encouragement.  He is one special boy and a wonderful companion.

Comments: Scupper (or Scoop) is a friendly, happy boy. This boy will need a home with a fence taller than 4 feet. Scoop will need a home without cats. He is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome. He has a broken leg that is currently in the process of healing. Scoop will not be available for adoption until his leg is healed. You can help with his medical expenses by sponsoring this handsome boy.
Kennel UpdateScupper had surgery on his leg on May 8th.  The surgeon was very pleased with how it went.  Scoop is now on the mend and will have several weeks of healing time and cast changes.  He is being very good about the process.  Such a lovely boy. Kennel Update: His cast came off at the beginning of July and he is making great strides in building up strength in his leg. Scupper is definitely about all that is good in life – he is one happy boy!! He is a big, strong boy and still has that goofy outlook on life. He will be graduating to off-leash exercise at the end of August and should be available for adoption shortly thereafter.  Kennel Update:  Scupper had to undergo another surgery to remove the hardware in his leg as it was causing some issues.  He is back on the road to recovery.  He’s such a good boy!!  Kennel Update:  Scupper finally has all the hardware removed from his leg and is in the final stages of his recovery and building up strength in his leg.  He is just a love!  Kennel Update:  Scupper’s leg is recovering well and he is now available for adoption.  He moves around well on his leg and is a happy, playful, bouncy guy.  He is having some acupuncture/chiropractic treatments and we would love his forever home to continue these for a while.  He will need a home who can manage a big, tall, strong boy.  He is so excited to finally be able to move and jump around, that he forgets himself at times.  Now that he is able to get some exercise and enjoy life, we think he will settle down well in a home with a little guidance and exercise.  Scupper will need a home without small dogs and we do not recommend him with young children.  Kennel Update:  Scupper’s leg has still not healed fully, but we are trying a new type of brace to help support his leg while he continues to heal.  Kennel Update:  Sadly we had to amputate Scupper’s leg as it just would not heal.  He is doing marvelously and is amazing on three legs.  Scupper will be running and playing in no time.  This boy is such a love and a real trooper.   Update:  Check out the video of Scupper running and playing after his amputation.
