If you are interested in adopting one of the available greyhounds shown here, please contact one of our representatives listed above or on our Contact Us page to help you with the adoption process. For a general adoption guide, please check our Adoption Guide and for adoption requirements and general information about greyhounds, please check our FAQs

No description is provided for greyhounds who have just recently arrived at our kennel. In all other cases, where a description is given regarding behavior, and the results of cat, small dog and kid testing, the information provided is merely for guidance. Each dog may adapt differently in a different home environment, with other animals or children whose behavior is different. Please work closely with our adoption representative to help you pick the right dog for your home.

Cat Trainable Dogs - There are many people with cats looking to adopt greyhounds.  If you do not have cats, we ask that you only consider adopting a dog that is not cat trainable.  These dogs need homes just as much as the cat trainable dogs and we ask your help in reserving the cat trainable dogs for those homes that truly need them.

Apartments, Condominiums, TownHomes - GPI reserves the right not to place a greyhound under 3 years of age in a condominium, townhome or apartment, due to their expected energy levels and activity needs.

GPI also reserves the right not to place greyhounds deemed as high energy in a condominium, townhome or apartment.

EXCEPTIONS to these policies may be considered for a particular dog, but they must be pre-approved by the President (or his/her board of director’s designee) AND the applicable Regional VP.

We do not recommend picking a dog from its cute picture or color. Please choose dogs within your locality or within your driving distance. Being a volunteer based group, it is difficult for the organization to organize special transport of a dog from one end of our service area to another end. We make an exception for our Special Hounds.

BOYS
Atlas

Atlas
Tag No: 5828
Registered Name: KB’s Atlas
Breed: Greyhound
Date of Birth: August 11, 2012
Color: Brindle
Cat Trainable: Possibly – see comments
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds, ok with some small dogs
Kid Friendly: No young children
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Larger photo: Yes, click the link in Atlas' comment area
Comments: Atlas is a handsome, big boy. He is friendly, playful, loving and a great boy. He has a gentle, calm way about him. He is a confident boy and will need a dog savvy home. Atlas walks well on leash and loves to walk and play. He is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome. Atlas has lived in a home and was returned for some behavior issues. In his home he did well with one older cat that didn’t move much, but the younger more active cat he wanted to chase. He may need a home with a canine companion, but we are not certain on this. He apparently went to doggie daycare on occasion and did well there. He has shown some interest in some small dogs, but has been fine with others. He knows several commands and has done well with clicker training. Atlas will make a wonderful companion, but he needs a dog savvy home who can guide him correctly.

He is not a dog for the first time dog owner. He is eager to please and learns quickly. Bill loves walks and car rides. He will need a home with another dog. Foster Home Update:  Bill is a delight around the house. He loves our daily walks and can't wait to go.  He is calm around the house, but there are also those delightful, playful moments where he pulls the toys out and he is spinning around the family room playing.  He is not a dog for the first time dog owner, and you need to know when to push and when not to with this boy, but once Bill knows you and is comfortable, he is very affectionate and eager to please.

Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with larger, fine with small dogs
Kid Friendly: Older only
Location: Foster home

Comments: Jo Jo is a mellow, playful boy. He loves to spend time with you and will need a home with a canine companion. He loves kongs and balls. He is a love and very affectionate. Jo Jo will need a home without cats or young children.  Foster home update: (In Jo Jo's words)  I like this foster thing... There are beds everywhere, a doggie door leading out to a big yard and two cute older ladies (Lady and Zora) to keep me company when the human is gone. There are stuffies and balls and toys all over the place. A handsome hound like me could get used to this. The ride here was nice but I'll need some practice getting in the car. Tomorrow, a walking adventure in the park. To be continued.... Foster home update:  Jo Jo Is a lover and a leaner. He has a calm nature, has excellent house manners. He figured out how to go up stairs after I helped him up the 1st 2 steps. Jo Jo has a classic greyhound head and is a big boy weighing in at 79lbs. He could easily win the longest tail award, his tail lacks about 1/2in. of dragging on the floor. Jo Jo has met my sister’s small dog and basically just ignored him. He is the same way with small dogs he has met at our Meet and Greets but he has not lived with a small dog.

Comments: Matt is a great boy. Friendly, calm. Matt will need a home without cats. Foster home update: Matt is a sweet, gentle boy with a playful side. He is very friendly and loves to be with people. More often than not, he will choose to lean on you for contact and affection over activities. He is truly a lover! Matt is still working on stairs, but with help and encouragement he can get up and down with no problem. He is great on walks and on the leash. He hops up into the car with no problem and is pretty excited about car rides. Matt can have a little bit of anxiety in a new place initially, but within a few days, he settles down nicely. Matt loves to play! His favorite things include stuffy fuzzy critters and things that squeak! He is currently in a foster home with his foster brother Sly and his two foster siblings. Matt is great with other greyhounds and does fine with other dogs, however, he prefers the company of other greyhounds.

Nicky
Tag No: 5879
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound
Date of Birth: Approx Feb 1, 2014
Color: Black
Cat Trainable: Yes
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds. Ok with small dogs, but see comments.
Kid Friendly: No young children
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Larger photo:  Yes, click the link in Nicky's comment area
Comments: Nicky is a fun, friendly, easy going boy with nice manners. He is affectionate and playful. He has shown some protective behaviors (not bad) with other dogs over things he values, so we do not recommend him for the first time dog owner or with young children. With some good guidance Nicky may outgrow this behavior. He has done fine at turnout with other greyhounds. He would most probably do best as an only dog or with perhaps another female larger size dog. He did well in cat and small dog testing. He is a young dog so he is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome. February 2016:  Nicky has mysteriously broken a toe.  It was a bad break and the toe is non-weight bearing, so we have amputated the toe.  He will be available for adoption once his surgery site has healed.  This boy is wonderful - such a love.  He is very good in the car.  He is affectionate and loves to lean and give kisses.  MEDICAL HOLD

Comments: Rocket is a quiet, easy going boy. He is very friendly and has a more docile nature. He will need a home without cats. At first Rocket was very calm and docile.  He has definitely come out of his shell now and is very playful, fun and active. He does have his calm, loving moments, but he may need a more active home to curb that initial energy.

Comments: Sly is a shy guy and a gentle soul. He would do best in a home with another happy-go-luck dog who can show him the ways of the world. O
nce Sly knows you and is comfortable, he is a happy and playful guy.  Sly will need a home without cats. Foster home update: Sly is a quiet and gentle soul who is a bit timid and a little skiddish. He has only been in his foster home a short while but with consistent love, patience and respect, he is slowly coming out of his shell. As Sly warms up, he gets more and more comfortable, shows increased curiosity and seeks out more and more attention. Sly will need someone who is willing to let him grow and blossom at his own pace. He does great in the car and great on walks. Due to his shy nature, he is a bit nervous at the beginning of walks but settles down with in a few minutes and walks nicely on leash with gentle guidance. Sly prefers the company of other greyhounds, and would probably do best with another dog.
