It was a grey and wet day but spirits were high while anxiously waiting for 16 new Hounds to join the GPI world of ex-racing Greyhounds.
It was an early start for most in order to be on site and ready for the arrival by 8 am. The entire receipt evolution was well executed and took just under two hours to complete. Then there was time for meeting the new Hounds on a more personal basis. Those who could stayed until it was clean up time and appetites were calling for lunch. After clean up and pack up, the holdovers got together for lunch out on the town. After lunch all went about the rest of the day in their own way with the feeling of being a part of something very warm and special. That feeling is well deserved.
The bus arrives. Note Moira closing the gate behind to keep out the anxious crowds wanting to see the new hounds
Moira rushes to close the gate after the bus arrives. A glimpse inside the bus. The Team waiting in the rain with leashes in hand and a welcoming hearts.
Colleen and Moira wait for the first dog. The rest of the team waits. Out pops Little Daffy, who waits patiently while her leash gets adjusted. Next, comes nervous Jerry....the dog, not Marblehead. :) This beauty's name is Beast. Alice leads one of the dogs to the kennel yard to wait for shots. One of the females getting her leash adjusted. Mary walks one of the little girls to the yard while others take pictures.
The first step was to identify each Hound and administer needed shots, kennel cough vaccine and worming medication.
Moira checking on an ear tattoo while Colleen hangs on to the pup. Moira giving a shot. Now, comes the worming meds. Right down the throat it goes. Daffy gets her ears checked. Everyone's favorite redhead doing the important paperwork. Accurate records are an absolute necessity.
Sixteen new Hounds were received (8 boys & 8 girls) and are held on leash in the holding yard while waiting their turn for receiving and processing into the loving hands of GPI. The GPI folks were enjoying some of the drought prevention weather. The Hounds all enjoyed just being out of the bus and with people.
At least we had a little shelter when the rain got going. Thanks to some of the volunteers and the extra coats at the kennel, the dogs were able to keep warm.
The rest of the dogs waiting to be processed. Next is a flea spray and close inspection for any ticks hitching a ride.

After processing, the Hounds were watered, fed and checked out the accommodations in their new kennel run.
After a bit of a rest they were given their first Turn-Out in the Red Barn Hound heaven play yard. Many humans were rehoning their frizby skills in the rain to entertain the hounds. After the Turn-Out exercise, the hounds were finished with their the busy day of travel and check in.
Daffy curls up on the heated floor on her blankies. Jerry, the greyhound, not Marblehead, in repose. I think this is Mary resting. The end
