Help us get the dogs from the track to
GPI and their forever homes and the couch.
Getting dogs to GPI
involves great distances, which means huge costs associated with
hiring a hauler and the fuel for the transport vehicle. For
example, it can cost $100+ each to transport a dog to GPI. With
a load of 30+ dogs, it means a haul can cost between $3,000 and
$4,500. In the past the costs of hauling have been covered
through a combination of sources, including fundraising at the
track end, owners, kennels, tracks, etc. As racing declines,
there are fewer sources of funding and increasingly GPI is being
asked to help in covering some of the transportation costs. For
the 10 dogs that just arrived from Florida, GPI contributed $500
towards the haul ($50 per dog).
The transportation costs
are new costs to GPI and not ones that we have generally had to
incur in the past. You can help us with our 2012 transportation
costs through a donation to GPI.
Donating can be done
on-line through the Network For Good link above and on our website -
www.greyhoundpetsinc.org or by mailing a check to:
