Greyhound Pets, Inc.
Bella (DNJ Gomore) came to GPI
from Colorado in November 2008. She was soon adopted in December 2008 into a family with
another greyhound.
For whatever reason the other
greyhound decided to go after Bella and Bella wound up with some wounds. Bellas
family decided that the safest thing for Bella was to return her to GPI in September 2009.
They knew she was the perfect greyhound and would have an easy time finding a new home and
that their other greyhound would be more difficult to place.
Bellas leg wound had not
been properly treated by her previous vet. The dying skin and location resulted in a huge
gaping wound on Bellas leg. Leg wounds are also difficult to treat because there is
very little skin there and not much in the way of body fat. She spent nearly three weeks
at our vet and endured numerous surgeries and treatments, including skin grafts, to try
and get it to heal. Once back in our kennel, Bella continued to endure multiple vet visits
to continue treatment of the wound. There have also been many bandagings and rebandagings
to endure as well as methods for preventing her chewing on the wound. Our vet did a great
deal of research on ways to help Bella and did try a new technique on her that partially
helped. Dr. Lesley Kovar has been wonderful and has done much of the work on Bella at a
reduced charge or no-charge.
Everyone who meets Bella just
falls in love with her. She is a favorite at the kennel and at the vet. Everyone just
loves her and spoils her. One would think after all the time she has spent at the vet that
it would not be her favorite place, but she happily visits the vet and doesnt
complain one bit. And whenever anyone needs to do any work on her, she just stands still,
without anyone even having to hold on to her, while the work is being done.
Bellas wounds have cost
GPI approximately $2,000 in vet bills and has taken over two months to heal. She still has
some final healing to do, but as of November 29, 2009 the wound is healing well and we are
on the final stretch to get it completely healed.
On Friday, November 29, 2009
Bella moved into a foster home for her final healing.
Thank you for helping us look
after Bella.
