Gifting and donation information for our new kennel

Greyhound Pets, Inc.
07.12.08kennel.jpg (81292 bytes) John A. Hern Jr. began organizing Greyhound Pets, Inc. in 1985. John’s love for the Ex-Racer Greyhound is shown and remembered in “Hern Greyt Works”, GPI’s newly completed kennel facility in Woodinville, WA. John’s generous bequest made it possible for dedicated volunteers to develop this full-featured kennel facility equipped to house 37 Ex-Racers in individual indoor kennel runs. After one year in construction, “Hern Greyt Works” is now caring for Retired Racing Greyhounds being prepared to join an adopting family in a “Forever Home”

The story of construction and arrival of the first 16 hounds at "Hern Greyt Works" is shown below in progress pictures, reports and a link to the First Arrival Day presentation.

All who are associated with GPI, and every GPI Greyhound, are greytful for the dedication and hard work of the Kennel Committee; Don St.Clair (Chair), Bob and Yumi Burnett, Susie Kush and Marchet Anschell. There are countless others who donated time and treasure and who served as Directors and Officers of GPI. Thanks to them all.

4,876 Retired Racers and counting as of 12 July 2008.

July 12, 2008:

HERN GREYT WORKS WELCOMES FIRST EX-RACERS

Saturday, the 12th of July was a busy day for GPI and many Greyhounds. The day was sunny and warm. There were Meet and Greet Booths and a Festival where Ex-Racers were well represented to a curious public. A milestone event occurred in the evening when 16 Retired Racers arrived as the first to be received at GPI’s new kennel facility, “Hern Greyt Works”.

Volunteers assembled for the pre-arrival briefing and were ready to welcome the new hounds when the long-long trailer arrived. The induction process was executed smoothly: Unloading the hounds from the trailer, Leashing, muzzling, and tagging. Stretching and watering in the turnout yard. Processing through identification, worming medication, shots, Bordetella vaccination and initial examination. Flea treatment and a close inspection for tics. Introduction of the hounds to their own comfortable indoor run with lots of petting and comforting words of welcome. The next several days will be for bathing and a visit to the Vet for Spaying/Neutering, teeth cleaning, micro-chipping and physical. After some temperament testing and personality evaluation, ....It’s Show Time!…. booths, fostering, fun at turnouts, socializing and reputation building. A family to adopt and a “Forever Home” are now in the near future thanks to those who care and show it in so many ways by helping GPI do its good work.

The pictures tell the story:

Enjoy the event as if you were there..... http://www.greyhoundpetsinc.org/gallery/events/FirstDogLoadatHernGreytWorks/index/

June 23, 2008: The County has told me that they have issued our Kennel License, so we should see it this week. We are waiting for the final building inspection so we can get our temporary certificate of occupancy. There are some additional steps that have to be completed after the inspection in order for us to get our full certificate of occupancy. The striping of the parking lot has been completed. The fencing is well under way. The work on the kennel run drain covers is nearing completion. The big washer and dryer have been ordered. The restroom fixtures are installed, with a couple of minor exceptions. The grading has been completed and various areas hydro seeded. Some of the shelving in the kitchen and restroom is nearing completion. The flooring in the grooming/laundry area and adoption center is complete.

July 30, 2007: Construction Begins!!!

July 8, 2007: Work Party at the new kennel site. We had a work party to clear out the existing building. A lot of work was done on going through everything, determining what was to be kept, what was to be thrown out, and what could be given away. Items were then moved to the storage container, into the little house or put in piles to be trashed or donated.
