Hern Greyt Works - Gifting information for our new kennel
July 12, 2008: HERN GREYT WORKS WELCOMES FIRST EX-RACERS
Saturday, the 12th of July was a busy day for GPI and many Greyhounds. The day was sunny and warm. There were Meet and Greet Booths and a Festival where Ex-Racers were well represented to a curious public. A milestone event occurred in the evening when 16 Retired Racers arrived as the first to be received at GPIs new kennel facility, Hern Greyt Works.
Volunteers assembled for the pre-arrival briefing and were ready to welcome the new hounds when the long-long trailer arrived. The induction process was executed smoothly: Unloading the hounds from the trailer, Leashing, muzzling, and tagging. Stretching and watering in the turnout yard. Processing through identification, worming medication, shots, Bordetella vaccination and initial examination. Flea treatment and a close inspection for tics. Introduction of the hounds to their own comfortable indoor run with lots of petting and comforting words of welcome. The next several days will be for bathing and a visit to the Vet for Spaying/Neutering, teeth cleaning, micro-chipping and physical. After some temperament testing and personality evaluation, ....Its Show Time! . booths, fostering, fun at turnouts, socializing and reputation building. A family to adopt and a Forever Home are now in the near future thanks to those who care and show it in so many ways by helping GPI do its good work.
