I will forever love my first Greyhound, Ole Beats Me, Abby as she was named by Marchet. She was born May 1, 1997, and she came into my life on June 13, 2003. I had the privilege of living with her for almost 4 years, until April 14, 2007.

Yesterday I had to make the most difficult decision of my life and send our beautiful girl on to a place without pain. We recently found out she had a tumor on her spine, which was causing the limp she developed two months ago. She was in a lot of pain, despite medication, and we could not allow her to suffer any more. I got down beside her to give her a kiss, and she gave my face so many kisses back. The previous few days, when I asked for a kiss, she wasn't so interested, so I felt she was telling me it was okay.

We have so many wonderful memories of her, and she brought such joy to so many people. She just naturally drew people to her with her sweet face and loving disposition. She'd let me know when she wanted to meet someone, especially if someone was getting into or out of a car, she'd try to jump right in, hoping for a ride. She particularly wanted to meet people in wheelchairs and little kids in strollers.

She was a natural as a Therapy Dog, visiting George Pearson Centre for two years. She was often a star at special events, being the beautiful singer she was. Many people would request to have a picture taken with her.

So now, wherever she is, she's not hurting anymore. I hope Dr. Kubler-Ross is right and we find those we loved waiting for us when it's our time to go. Hers will be the first face I look for. I hope she's found my dad, who died in '93. He loved dogs so much, and he'd just love her - she was such a good girl.
