Meet Troy: October Dog of the Month

October 14, 2020

troy5drop
troytitle2happypumpkins

Tag No: 6279
Registered Name: VJ Big Boy Troy
Breed: Greyhound
Date of Birth: April 11, 2016
Color: White/Red
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds
Kid Friendly: No
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments:  Troy is a delight. He is a happy, playful boy once comfortable.

Troy is a wonderful boy - affectionate and very sweet, but he does have some insecurities. Troy is a broken leg dog and it has left him with some residual pain and sensitivity issues. His pain issues are well managed with daily meds. He has come a long way with the help of some wonderful folks at Crawford Canine Connection.

Troy is affectionate and a big time leaner, but doesn't like to be overwhelmed or overhandled. He will need an adoptive home who is dog savvy, patient, willing to go at Troy's pace and will continue his training using positive training methods. Troy needs to use a ramp to load and unload into/out of a vehicle and we are happy to provide that to his new family. We will provide 3 training sessions so he can continue to get acclimated in his new home with positive training methods.

Troy will need a quieter home with a fenced yard and no children. He would love a canine companion - preferably female, but he has done well with many male dogs as well (he is turned out with another male greyhound at the moment and does fine). He will need a home without cats.

The ideal home would be a local Woodinville area home. With a little patience, this boy will reward you ten fold!!! He has made HUGE strides and is just a love. Contact us for more information and to come and meet this wonderful boy.

The Pawsitive Alliance in the #WhyNotMePets campaign in conjunction with the KOMO 4 Seattle Refined show! Thank you Pawsitive Alliance and KOMO TV for helping Troy find his forever home! Learn about Troy’s story here:

Prince, Mandy, Boyd, Cory, Cabo, Katie, Anna

August 18, 2020

Join us here each Monday as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Prince

Prince with his new dad, Jack

This man was interested in adopting a Greyhound about a year ago but realized that he really wasn’t completely settled so he thought he should postpone it. It was the perfect decision since he did end up moving to a new apartment. He also decided to do turnout for a while so that he could get to know more about the breed and how to handle the dogs. Now that he’s all settled and working from home, he’s ready for his new companion and he chose our stunning fawn boy — Prince!

Mandy

Mandy with her new human sister, Mariah

This family has been fostering dogs for PAWS & Everett Humane Society for quite a while, but they have never had a dog of their own. Recently, they decided the time had come for them to adopt and they wanted a Greyhound. Of course, there was one little extra necessity and that was that the dog be able to get along with their cats. They were fortunate enough to be at the top of the cat friendly list when the new load came in so they had first choice – and they chose the dog we all said would be adopted first – our beautiful black girl with the white stockings, Mandy!!

Boyd

Boyd with his new parents, Polly & Geoff

Since the whole pandemic started, we have been having to do things much differently and we have had to come up with some creative solutions for situations. Since we are having some difficulty getting all the new dogs spayed and neutered, many people will be adopting dogs but not actually taking them home until they have been vetted. This couple lives too far from the kennel to make two trips so we did a virtual adoption appointment using videos and descriptions. The couple was able to get a good feel for the dogs through the videos and fell in love with this wonderful guy. When they came to pick him up, their initial feelings were confirmed and strengthened — there was no way they were going home with any other dog but Boyd!!

Cory

Cory with his new parents, Cathy & Mike

This family just lost their last Greyhound and they just couldn’t stand to be in a house without that special Greyhound energy. Their last hound was a small girl and they thought that they wanted another small girl (you know what that means!!). We showed them the girls we had, but, unfortunately, there just wasn’t a good connection with any of them. So, we suggested they look at the boys and they only needed to see one – our sweet, absolutely gorgeous boy Cory!!!

Cabo

Cabo, nka Willow, with her new family … Jon, Lily, Leslie, Skye & Quincy

The first family has a gentle 13 year old lab mix named Quincy that was in need of a pal. They were thinking that a girl would be the best fit for Quincy so that was the direction we pursued. Most adopters assume and kind of hope that their current dog will give them some guidance while they are making a selection, but not this time … this dog got along with everyone, so the family had to make the final decision between two very sweet girls. It was a hard decision but Miss Cabo was the one that went home with them.

Katie

Katie, nka Billie, with her new parents, Rob & Laura

The next couple was looking for their first dog together and couldn’t wait to meet the dogs we had to show them. They saw quite a variety of boys and girls and enjoyed seeing them all. They narrowed the list down to three dogs that they wanted to see outside, but they only needed to spend time with one of them. They picked a cute little black and white girl with the most adorable overbite – Katie!!

Anna

Anna with her new parents, Chelby & Mike

Lastly, a couple lost their Greyhound about a year ago and they decided they had taken enough time to heal and it was time to give another Greyhound a home. The couple decided some years ago that they wanted to be able to travel around so they sold their home and have been living in an RV. Actually, this is their second RV — they needed to upgrade so there was room for their last dog to have her own couch. Needless to say, there is every indication their new addition will be just as spoiled!! Anna seemed to think that was a pretty good deal — who wouldn’t????

Meet Mike: November Dog of the Month – ADOPTED!!

October 31, 2018

Tag No: 6245
Registered Name: Hof Mike Ditka
Breed: Greyhound
Date of Birth: February 12, 2016
Color: Brindle
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds, Unknown with others
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments: Mike is a friendly, affectionate big boy. He is an active, playful guy. He will need a more active home, but he is also ready to settle and snuggle as well. He is still young, so will need a little gentle guidance in the ways of the world to help build his confidence. He is not shy, just a little tentative about anything new. Mike is a very sweet, lovable big boy. Mike is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome. He will also need a home with a canine companion and without cats.
