Squid

Squid with his new family, Keith, Juliet, Isaac & Lauri

This dog came to use from Hawaii with his brother Ed. The two are adorable, playful and have entranced us with their puppy antics. This boy did so well with the family’s children – gentle and played well. They are hoping to train him as a therapy dog. Go Squid!!! -Moira Corrigan

Liz

William, Alicia, Shay & Justin with Boston Terrier, Twyla and tripod Vizla, Gamma

This dog came to us in May of this year and went through 2 homes for separation anxiety. This family have a 12 year old tripod Viszla and a 5 year old Boston Terrier – a hard home to find a match for, along with their pet rats (kept separate from the dogs) and two teenagers. But Liz prevailed and is now enjoying retirement with everyone to keep her company. – Moira Corrigan

Casper

Casper with his new mom and dad, Jeff & Anastasia

This dog had a couple looking for their first dog together. They recently moved into a townhouse and were ready to adopt. They looked at a number of dogs, but Casper stole the show and was glued to the by the time they left – just in time for Halloween!!! – Moira Corrigan

Astro

Astro, originally from Australia with his new mom & dad, Bruce & Jennifer

This couple came looking for another greyhound after their last greyhound passed in June. They have had greyhounds for years and a handsome boy Astro, from Australia, caught their eye. Astro is now enjoying retirement Stateside in their home. – Moira Corrigan

Sid

Sid with his new family, James, Sara & Cheryl

This family came looking for a dog to add to their family that includes a 7 year old girl. They were particularly interested in our smaller dogs. They spent lots of time with one of our smaller dogs and finally went home with one of the biggest boys in the kennel – Sid, one of our Irish lads. – Moira Corrigan

Star

Star’s official portrait – Sorry, no family photo

This gentleman volunteered at the kennel about 10 years ago and fell in love with greyhounds, but at the time he wasn’t in a position to adopt one. Now he’s married and living in a house with a yard, so he and his wife started volunteering at the kennel doing turnout. As we often say, turnout is a great way to meet and get to know the dogs. And in this case they y fell in love and decided to bring Star home. – Moira Corrigan

Mandy

Mandy (left) with her new parents, Sofya & Shay and her new sister, Saffron

This couple from Portland came to visit during our recent Rootique shopping day. When they found out that we had a few dogs available who had previously lived with cats they were immediately interested and quickly got their home visit done. All of the dogs we introduced them to got along with their brindle girl Saffron. But one in particular caught their eye, so they brought home Mandy. – Mike Forrest

Mischief

Mischief (right) with her new family, Wendy & Gregory and their other greyhound, Melody

The couple that came in this day has had greyhounds for the last 30 years, and decided that their current girl Melody needed a companion. Since they also have a couple of cats, their options were very limited. Melody got along with all of the dogs that we introduced her to, but one girl came out determined to let everybody know that she was ready to go home today: Mischief! – Mike Forrest

Donna

Donna, nka Aoife (pronounced ee-fah), with her new family … Alexandra, Claire & Goose

This family knew which dog was of interest to them before they came. But, they had a couple of other things to take into consideration when they were making their decision — namely … their cat and their two year old Coonhound named Goose. We couldn’t do much to find out about how our dog would do with the cat at the kennel, but we could definitely see how Goose would do with her. Even though he was quite a bit younger than our girl, he seemed to understand what she needed and wanted and they got along very nicely. So, our pretty Irish girl, Donna (nka Aoife – pronounced ee-fah), found her new home and gained two new furry buddies.

Ben

Ben with his new parents … Bora & Justin

This couple did their research and knew exactly what dog they wanted when they set up their appointment. They had gone on the Brightwater walks and had a greyt opportunity to see quite a few of the dogs in action and also walk some of them. They felt a connection to and fell in love with our sweet Australian boy, Ben, and it was obvious he felt the same way when they came to pick him up!!!

Stitch

Stitch (right) with his new mom and sister … Chris and Letty (fka Velvet)

This woman has had quite a few of our Greyhounds through the years. She recently lost one of them and her remaining Lurcher, Letty (fka Velvet), was really having a hard time being alone so it was definitely time to add another family member. When we brought out this striking black boy, we told the lady that this guy was a little on the shy side and might take a few minutes to get his bearings, but, as it frequently happens, he made a liar out of us. He recognized that she was his new mom right away and stayed very focused on her throughout the introduction!! Now, that is how a dog gets adopted!! I don’t know who taught Stitch the ropes, but they did an excellent job!!!

George

George with his new mom, Shelley

When this Lady gave us a description of the dog she would like to get, the first thing she said was that she wanted a “goofy” dog. We immediately knew which dog would be going home with her! We did show her a few different options, but she fell in love with our goofiest guy — a darling black guy from Australia named George!!

Breanna

Breanna with her new parents, Sam & Elizabeth

This couple was looking for a girl and, even though we didn’t have a lot of girls, we sure had some special ones for them to meet. And, just for fun, we also showed them a few boys. They had narrowed their choices down to two girls and one boy, but after time in the yard, it was down to just the two girls. Really, it was almost impossible for any of the dogs to compete with this dog — she had the softest bunny fur we have encountered in quite a while (with the exception of her sister’s whose fur was just a touch softer). The couple left with Breanna and my guess is that they haven’t stopped patting her yet!!

Crystal

Crystal, nka Lily, with her new parents, Paul & Sydney, and her new fur buddies, Winston & Iggy

When someone comes in with 2 small dogs, Italian Greyhounds in this case, we know that we are going to be showing quite a few dogs in order to find the “small dog friendly” ones. That is exactly what happened and, in all the dogs we showed, we only came across 2 that we felt were solid possibilities. And, truthfully, one of them screened herself out because she was just a little too interested in the Iggies when we went outside. With all that being said, this couple really lucked out because they ended up with a dog that was a big time “kennel favorite”. This wonderful fawn girl from Australia was incredibly gentle with the small dogs and, in fact, most of the time she didn’t even pay any attention to them. Crystal, nka Lily, will be a greyt addition to the family!!!

Buster

Buster with his new parents, Jason & Laura

This couple has been through a lot in the last couple of months. They moved here from Chicago and shortly thereafter had to send their Greyhound to the Bridge (he had lung cancer for a long time). Hopefully, the stress and sadness of the last couple of months is behind them and they can go forward with their new family member — that very handsome black boy from Ireland, Buster!!

Kai, Sally, Heidi, Loo-Loo, April

Kai

Kai with his new parents Melanie and Shane

This couple came from all the way from Vancouver Island to adopt one of our dogs! They needed a dog that could get along with their older cat and, for once, we actually had a few dogs for them to meet. After meeting every one of our “cat friendly” dogs and playing with several of them in the yard and the adoption center, they decided on our darling puppy from Hawaii. The truth is that it would have been almost impossible not to fall in love with Kai after watching him play with his squeaky ball in the adoption center!!

Sally

Sally with her new parents Joy and Jacob

This couple came to adopt their first Greyhound. They had been here the day before but they just couldn’t decide between two of our beautiful girls so they had to go home and discuss things. Thankfully, they were able to come to an agreement and they came to pick up their new family member. I’m not sure who was more excited, the couple or our black Irish girl (who looks a little like a black lab !). All I know is that Sally couldn’t wait to get out of the door and on her way to her new home.

Heidi

Heidi with her new dad Zach

When most of our dogs are adopted, people come in, meet them, take them home and off they go. But for some of our dogs, to have the best results, the potential owners have to do some work before they adopt their dog. This man has done turnout for quite a while and he fell for a pretty fawn and white girl from South Korea. He knew that there were some issues that she needed to work on and he needed to know how to work on them with her so he initiated some “pre-training” sessions with our resident trainer. When he and the trainer felt that the dog was ready to go home, they decided to continue training sessions as soon as he got home. All that work paid off for both him and Miss Heidi and she is now living happily in her new home — Hooray for her and her new dad (and thanks to our trainer for all her help!)!

Loo-Loo

Loo-loo with her new parents Ryan & Kaitlyn

It seems like we have a lot of different types of dogs right now and most people come in looking for one type or another. However, this couple was open to meeting all shapes and sizes of dogs and we were happy to introduce them to a few. It actually didn’t take them long to narrow their choices down to 2 dogs, but it did take a while to make the final decision. The gorgeous brindle girl that they chose did a greyt job of trying to let them know that she had made her choice, but it took the couple a little while to understand what she was doing. When the “lightbulb” went on, they realized that our Lurcher from the mid-west , Loo-Loo, had to be their new family member.

April

April with her new family … Haley, Jakob and Petra

This couple has a two year old female Doberman, named Petra, that was definitely in need of a playmate. We weren’t quite sure what our dogs were going to think about a dobie, and we got some interesting reactions. A couple of our dogs let it be known quickly that they were not going to do well, but, luckily, we had a couple of girls that thought it would be fun to play with Petra. Actually, Petra and April hit it off immediately and had so much fun playing together that we knew quickly she would be heading north with her new family!!

Trey

Trey with his new parents, Michelle & Darren

The Canadian border has finally opened and our first, of what we hope will be many, adopters left the kennel to head north with their new buddy. When this couple saw their dog-to-be on the internet, they fell in love with him before they even met him and they were sure he was the one for them. When they actually met him, they fell even more in love and the dog decided they were pretty special too. This was the perfect day for this guy to be adopted because he came to our kennel exactly one year ago!! All of us are so excited that Trey has found his new family … he’s been waiting such a long time and they finally arrived!!!

Adonis

Adonis with his new family … Tyler, Charlotte & Russ

I think that some of the dogs who have been here a while hold back a little when they are shown to prospective adopters. Maybe it’s because they don’t want to be disappointed or who knows what. But, when they start to let their guard down and allow the people to see what they are really like, it is really quite touching. That’s what happened with this dog, it took a little while, but when he looked his mother to be right in the eye, they both knew that his adoption was practically a done deal. There is no doubt that Adonis will be a cherished and spoiled family member!!

Solo

Solo (right) with his new family … Etienne, Deborah & Charlie (fka Bug)

This couple has had one of our hounds, Charlie (fka Bug), for about 4 years and lately she has acted like she needed a buddy. So, now that the border to Canada is finally open, they decided to come meet some dogs. We introduced them to some great dogs and Charlie let us know very quickly which one she wanted. The guy they picked has been around a while and he has missed being the adopted dog many times (he had the “bridesmaid” role down pat). But this time, he was the “bride” and he acted like he just knew it was going to be his turn!! Solo and his new sister make quite a pair – two beautiful fawns — they’ll be stopping traffic in Canada for sure!!

Luna

Luna (right) with her new mom, Lue & fur sister Mocha

This particular dog could have been adopted about 10 times by now!! We need to clone her. But, the lady who was lucky enough to get her knew what she wanted and she moved fast to get all the adoption qualifying steps done so that she would be first in line when this dog was ready to be adopted!! Of course there were some hurdles to get past — namely a 10 year old Whippet named Mocha that would live in the same house, and 2 very small old dogs that the daughter owns. Thankfully, this little girl from Hawaii passed all the challenges with flying colors and now Luna is getting settled in her new home!!

Charleston

Charleston (nka Charlie) with his new family, Liz, Rich, Phoebe (middle) & Danica (right)

When you are living in a place full of Greyhounds and you don’t look anything like a Greyhound, it is pretty hard to get adopted. But, this guy waited & waited and his people finally found their way to the kennel. This couple has had quite a few of our dogs, many of which needed some special attention, and they have done an amazing job with them. I have to say that when they came to meet this guy, he put on the best performance I have seen from him in the whole time he has been with us. He was not only excited to meet his new parents, but also his new playmates, Phoebe and Danica. Charleston (nka Charlie) got everything we hoped for him including a big yard where he could play with his new buddies.

Halley

Halley is now known as Harley

This particular lady has been interested in our older dogs and has fostered and adopted a few in the past years. Recently she adopted a beautiful older girl named Bella and, at the time, she mentioned that she would like to have 2 dogs. So, when we had another older lady come back to the kennel, she was the first person we thought of as a possible adopter. Thankfully, she was all for it and the two dogs got along greyt so Haley, nka Harley, now has a new home, fur sister and mom!! (No family photo available)

Korra

Korra, fka Homie & nka Kayley, with her new parents Shana & Barry

For a variety of reasons, the next couple have been waiting 17 months for their new dog. The Canadian border problems was the biggest obstacle and now that it has opened, it was possible for the couple to come down to meet dogs. They weren’t sure they were completely ready for a new addition, but, sometimes, opportunity knocks and you have to move fast. We got a return last Friday that was perfect for this couple and, thankfully, they realized they had to commit quickly to make this adoption happen. (It’s a good thing they did because we have had a lot of interest in this dog!!) They pulled everything together in a couple of days and they showed up to pick up their new girl with huge smiles and left with even bigger ones! Their gorgeous red girl who is now named Kayley, fka Homie then Korra, couldn’t wait to get out the door and on her way to her new home.

Woody

Woody, nka Gizmo, with his new mom Dionne

For those of us who love having big dogs, it is hard when you come to the realization that it might be time to downsize a little. This particular lady not only downsized a little – she downsized a lot!!! She went from a Greyhound to an Italian Greyhound! This cute little blue fawn guy from South Korea stole her heart the minute she met him so there was no doubt that Woody, nka Gizmo, was going to be heading home with her.
